A weatherproof enclosure is a protective casing designed to shield sensitive electrical or mechanical components from environmental factors like rain, snow, dust, UV radiation, and temperature fluctuations. They are commonly used outdoors or in harsh industrial settings.

      Common materials include:

      • Polycarbonate: Lightweight, impact-resistant, and UV-stable.

      • ABS Plastic: Affordable and corrosion-resistant.

      • Stainless Steel: Durable for extreme conditions.

      • Aluminum: Lightweight with natural corrosion resistance.

The IP (Ingress Protection) rating indicates the enclosure’s protection level against solids and liquids. For example:

      • IP65: Dust-tight and protected against water jets.

      • IP67: Dust-tight and submersible in water up to 1 meter.

      • IP66: Resists powerful water jets.

Weatherproof ≠ fully waterproof. While they resist rain and splashes, only enclosures with ratings like IP67/IP68 are waterproof and can withstand submersion. Always check the IP rating for your specific needs.

      • Outdoor equipment (e.g., CCTV cameras, solar panels).

      • Industrial machinery in wet/dusty environments.

      • Marine or coastal areas (if corrosion-resistant).

      • HVAC systems or telecommunications infrastructure.

      • Ensure the gasket/seal is intact and clean.

      • Tighten all bolts evenly to avoid gaps.

      • Mount in a way that prevents water pooling (e.g., angled slightly downward).

      • Use conduit seals for cable entries.

Depends on the contents. Use ventilated enclosures for heat-sensitive devices, but add filters to maintain IP ratings. For water-prone areas, sealed enclosures with cooling fans or heat sinks may be better.

      • Inspect seals/gaskets every 6–12 months for wear.

      • Clean surfaces with mild soap and water to prevent debris buildup.

      • Replace damaged hinges, latches, or seals promptly.

Yes. We offer modification to our off the shelf enclosures and bespoke designs, speak to your account manager:

      • Custom sizes or shapes.

      • Pre-drilled mounting holes.

      • Transparent doors or windows.

      • Powder-coated colors for visibility or branding.

      • UL Listing: Safety compliance for electrical enclosures.

      • NEMA 4/4X: Equivalent to IP66 for North America.

      • ATEX/IECEx: For hazardous (explosive) environments.

Typically 10–20+ years, depending on material and environment. Stainless steel lasts longest in corrosive settings, while UV-resistant plastics degrade slower outdoors.

      • Plastic (ABS/Polycarbonate): £ – ££ (budget-friendly).

      • Aluminium: ££ (mid-range, lightweight).

      • Stainless Steel: £££ (premium).

Only if they’re rated for hazardous locations (e.g., ATEX, Class I Div 2). Standard weatherproof enclosures may not prevent sparks or explosions.
